As of recently I have been finding it really hard to find the motivation to do every item on my to-do list. It is genuinely hard to find a good balance between work, university and a social life. I still have not yet managed to find one and im onto week three of my MA so if you feel the same way about your degree don’t panic.

I tried to conquer it by creating a schedule of what I needed to do within a week, for example block out the times that I need to attend university or when I am at work. I was so excited to start my new organised life but then I knocked my back at work, which therefore meant it felt very uncomfortable for me to sit at my desk for three hours nevertheless try and concentrate or take in any kind of information. So instead of worrying about it, I emailed my lecturer to let her know I wouldn’t be able to attend, and I will try again tomorrow.

I have learnt in life you need to say no and focus upon your physical and mental health. This included me sitting in bed and reading around the area I wanted to focus my first assignment on, I wasn’t pressuring myself to do anything vast as I knew I wouldn’t be able to focus for long periods, but at least I made a start and that has lifted my spirits.

My task for tomorrow if I am feeling up to it, is to watch the recording of the lecture and then attend my other modules live lecture on the night. Then the rest of the week although I am at work I am going to make time to go and see one of my friends, read for my assignments and make sure I squeeze in reading for pleasure.

I need to remember that although my MA is very important to me. I know I will get my assignments completed to the best of my ability because I am so determined to do the best I possibly can.

Basically, all I am trying to say is we will all get there, if you need to take a couple of days off from doing the extra reading or need to miss a lecture as you are poorly, that is okay, just start again when you feel better. Also, don’t forget your lecturers and the library staff are always their to support you.
