My name is Matthew Cockle and I am a second-year Social Media Management student at the University of Sunderland.
I started at the university in 2019 coming from many years of non-academia. Initially, I was working as a hairdresser while managing various social media platforms for a number of salons. I soon realised that hairdressing wasn't the career for me and decided to come to study Social Media Management at the university.
In my 2 years so far I have been taught many valuable skills from industry experts who have worked/or are still working in the industry. I have received a wide range of opportunities to then put these skills into practice including a working placement with a Social Media Manager.
The university has a wide range of services to offer students, from 1 on 1 support, to help with writing assignments. There is something that every student can take from their learning experience to better themselves academically as well as prepare themselves for life after graduation.
