Hi, my name is Hanya and I'm a Biomedical Science student here at the university. Here is a little insight into what a typical week looks like for me.

The BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science course course allows you to gain expertise in fields such as medical microbiology, immunology, haematology, cellular pathology and clinical biochemistry. Students can build on their knowledge of biology or chemistry and work towards one of four possible degree titles.

As a biomed student our weeks are usually busy with with going to lectures, seminars and labs weekly for each of my three modules as well fitting in independent studying.

Typically, I have two lectures on Monday, and one on Wednesday/Friday. To start the week, I have one morning and afternoon lecture, each for 3 hours which means a lot of concentrating, so it’s nice to always go for a walk in between. I always find that leaving a couple days until I write up the lecture notes is best to be able to take in the content I learn and consolidate the content the following week.

Every other week on Tuesdays/Thursdays, we attend the labs, which is great to apply what we have learned in lectures, as well as being able to see other people! This is usually a full day of three hours in the morning and afternoon. On weeks without labs, I will usually spend these days working on assignments or writing up lecture notes either from home or sometimes I head to the library for a change of scenery. Since I am a PASS leader this year, I also fit in my weekly teams call on a Thursday with a group of first year biomed students to discuss topics/subjects they need help with which I really enjoy!

In the evening after studying or attending labs, as I’m part of rowing society I will go to a workout session every week. This is great way to end a day of studying by  moving and keeping fit as well as being able to have a catch up with others!
