There's no need to panic if you missed the UCAS application deadline on 31 January 2024. Even though it's best to sort out your application before the UCAS deadline, you still have a chance to land a place. However, you should know that there are no guarantees universities will give equal consideration to your late application.
UCAS Extra
You have two main options if you missed the 2024 UCAS deadline. The first one is to apply through UCAS Extra. If you used all five choices on your UCAS application form and you’re not holding any offers, you can still find a place at university by adding another choice through Extra, between 28 February and 4 July.
You can also add another choice if you didn't use up all your choices in your original UCAS application, as long as you do this before 30 June, and you haven’t accepted or declined any offers. You don't need to use Extra to do this.
If you don’t hold any offers after 5 July, you'll be able to add an additional choice through Clearing, the second option available to you for applying if you miss the January deadline.
Clearing
Clearing is for:
- Anyone who has not yet applied for university but wants to enrol on a course in September
- Anyone who hasn’t achieved the grades required and who hasn’t been accepted for their first (firm) or second (insurance) choice university
- Anyone who has not yet received any offers for a place at a university
Any empty places are up for grabs during Clearing and it usually operates on a first come, first served basis. Once you’ve found a course that you like, get in touch with the University of Sunderland (or another university of your choosing), or visit our Clearing page to see if there are places on the course you're interested in. Once you’ve been accepted over the phone, you can add the university to your Clearing choice in UCAS Track.
