Our Undergraduate Open Days are for anyone who is interested in studying an undergraduate degree here at the University of Sunderland.
Open Days are a great opportunity to find out more about your course, meet staff and students, and look around campus, but there are some other great reasons to come to our Open Days – here are just a few.
1. We'll help with your travel expenses
With cost of living on the rise, we appreciate how expensive travel is right now. We’re offering a travel reimbursement for our Undergraduate Open Days to help you with your expenses, and if you’re based in the UK and live more than 20 miles away from the University of Sunderland, you could claim back up to £100, depending on your location. Check out the terms and conditions to learn more about our travel reimbursement and find out how much you could be entitled to.
If you’re travelling by car, you can take advantage of free all-day parking on our campuses. You'll also have access to our free shuttle bus which can take you between campuses and to our student accommodation.
2. You'll be fed – for free!
Open Days are thirsty work, which is why we provide free refreshments throughout the day in the Friends and Family Zone – don't forget to grab a sweet treat to go with your cuppa!
Discovering our campuses and learning more about your course will work up an appetite, so refuel in our cafés where there’ll be a selection of hot and cold food available. We cater for all dietary requirements, so there’s something for everyone. Make sure to let us know your dietary requirements when you complete the registration form.
3. Take a look at our amazing facilities
A key part of an Undergraduate Open Day is to look around our campuses and see the facilities for yourself. We offer regular campus tours throughout the day that are delivered by our friendly Student Ambassadors – make sure to ask them lots of questions! Tours are available at both City Campus and the Sir Tom Cowie Campus and the free shuttle bus will be available every 15 minutes to travel between campuses. Some subject talks will also be followed by a specific facilities tour that will be delivered by an academic who teaches on your course.
We’re proud of our incredible facilities and we think you’ll be impressed. Keep an eye out for:
- Virtual Production facilities – see the brand new, cutting-edge technology in the David Puttnam Media Centre and learn why we're 1st in the UK for Film Production and Photography courses (Guardian University Guide, 2023)
- David Goldman Technology Centre – see demos of our computing and engineering equipment and visit the new home of the Northern Centre of Photography
- The Living Lab and Helen McArdle House – check out the demos in the mock hospital wards and see our simulation suites
- Our new Anatomy Centre – where you can have a go of the anatomage table (pictured below)
- CitySpace – visit the brand new home of our Students' Union. You can also drop by the gym for a free induction!
4. We'll provide the freebies
Not only will you come away from our Undergraduate Open Day armed with information, you'll also be taking home a goody bag full of freebies! Depending on your chosen course and the campus event you attend, you can expect to collect a range of sustainable merchandise, from a reusable cup to a mini first-aid kit.
5. View our accommodation
If you’re planning to move away from home, you’ll want to see the student accommodation we have to offer. We often provide tours to visit Clanny House, or Panns Bank and Scotia Quay. Clanny House is a popular accommodation site located one mile from City Campus and Sunderland city centre. Panns Bank and Scotia Quay are closer to the Sir Tom Cowie Campus, with riverside views available. All sites are self-catered with fully equipped kitchens and onsite coin-operated laundry facilities.
Head to the Tour Booking Stand after you check in to book your place, then head to the bus stop to catch the shuttle bus. You’ll be guided by a member of staff who’ll show you where you need to go and keep you right when it's time to head back to campus.
