The Combined Subjects degree provides an opportunity to study TESOL with another subject as a major, minor or dual combination.

Major
The major route will provide opportunities to critically explore issues related to the ways in which the English Language and intercultural competence can be described, discussed and investigated by learners and teachers in TESOL contexts.

Students will also critically review and evaluate current principles and practices in TESOL in a wide range of classroom and community contexts and pursue an in depth study of a selected TESOL area.

Dual
The dual route will offer opportunities to critically explore issues related to the ways in which the English language can be described and discussed by learners and teachers in TESOL contexts. It will also allow students to either further explore intercultural competence or to pursue an in depth study in a selected TESOL area.

Minor
The minor route will offer opportunities to critically explore issues related to the ways in which the English Language can be described and discussed by learners and teachers in TESOL contexts and to review and evaluate current principles and practices in TESOL.

Work Experience

In Level 2 all our TESOL students will have the opportunity to take the module 'Students as Tutors' in the local community and will thus have some experience of teaching in a small scale but high impact context.

All students registering for this module have regular support meetings with the module tutor and other students.

All of our students will be asked to work with students who use English as just one of their languages as part of the Principles and Practice of TESOL modules at Levels 2 and 3.

These structured opportunities to plan and micro teach English are an integral part of each module and will give you the opportunity to learn from your own life experiences.
