Media and Cultural Studies is based in the David Puttnam Media Centre at the Sir Tom Cowie Campus on the banks of the River Wear. The Centre is home to one of the most vibrant and well-equipped media operations in the country. Offering a range of undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, our provision has been rated 'excellent' by the Quality Assurance Agency.
We have a strong research profile , first-class links with the creative industries and an enviable reputation for producing highly employable graduates. Wherever possible our degree programmes are accredited by professional media organisations.
Students have the opportunity to work on our multi-award winning TV, online and radio station (External) Spark and their own page in the local evening newspaper.
The state-of-the-art facilities - among the best in Britain - include three TV studios, six digital radio studios, a 200-seat cinema and a host of video editing suites and journalism/PR workshops equipped with the latest design and database software.
