Sunderland beaches

With endless sands and miles of beautiful coastline, Sunderland’s majestic beaches are a must see for any visitor to the city.

See how our students enjoyed a recent trip to the beach below:

Life's a beach ... and then you graduate. Find a home in friendship. In freedom, in self-discovery. On a glistening coastline. Chase your hopes, chase your dreams. University of Sunderland

Our Sir Tom Cowie Campus at St Peter's is just a ten-minute walk from two of the finest beaches in the North East – Seaburn and Roker. Both beaches feature long promenades, making them ideal for walks and the chance to take in the raw beauty of the North East.

They have also been recognised nationally too, both have been awarded the prestigious Blue Flag status for their cleanliness and amenities, in addition to being named alongside the best beaches at the 2015 Seaside Awards for high standards of cleanliness and facilities.

Recently renovated Seaburn has a whole host of restaurants offering diners the chance to eat in style with the area’s stunning views as a backdrop. Whether it’s a taste of the sea at Queen’s, a candle-lit dinner at Gabriele’s or refined classic dishes at The Salt House Kitchen, all food lovers are covered.

Thrill seekers are well catered for as well. The award-winning Adventure Sunderland is based on the Roker seafront and offers a range of activities, from kayaking to surfing, for those who prefer to live life on the wild side.

No matter what you’re looking for – thrills, food or even a simple walk – you can find it at one of our beautiful beaches.
