Sunderland entertainment

As one of the largest cities in the North East, Sunderland has a buzzing nightlife. A wide array of clubs and bars in the centre of the city offer plenty of choice only a few minutes away from student accommodation. Add to that the fact that you can easily have a good night out on £10 and you’ll begin to understand why Sunderland is considered something of a party town for students.

Sunderland has also welcomed some of the biggest names in the music world in recent years; Rihanna, Foo Fighters, and One Direction are just a few of the names who have graced the stage at the Stadium of Light. For those who prefer things a little less mainstream, Sunderland’s underground scene is thriving, and venues such as Independent regularly play host to bands and DJs who play everything from Nu jazz to Rock 'n Roll.

Sunderland’s Empire theatre has showcased some of the best live acts around with Jason Manford, Shrek the Musical and the Rocky Horror Picture Show taking to the stage in the past, and the Empire Cinema has all the latest blockbusters for those who love the silver screen.
