Introduction

Accountancy has long been a top destination for graduates because of the attractive starting salaries, opportunities for professional qualifications, and excellent long-term career prospects. Among Chief Executives of Britain's top 100 companies in 2007, one in three had a background in accounting or finance.

There are two important steps to qualifying as an accountant: passing exams and undertaking relevant work experience. Our programme attracts a substantial level of accreditation from the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA). As a result our graduates are exempted from certain exams, speeding up their qualification as an ACCA accountant.

Our programme also provides opportunities to gain work experience. We encourage you to undertake a 48-week placement after your second year. This can be an opportunity to put into practice your new skills and knowledge. Placements and internships can, in some cases, count towards the three years relevant work experience needed before you can qualify as an ACCA accountant.

BA (Hons) Accounting and Finance is well suited to the understanding of business in the global economy, giving our graduates an extra edge in employability after graduation. The programme is also marked out by excellent learning support facilities.

By the time you complete your programme you will already be well on the way towards gaining a professional qualification. Equally, you could use your skills to move into more varied roles in general management, marketing or human resources. In all of these areas, your financial expertise will give you a head start and a career advantage.
