Introduction

  • Grade 1 Law Department
  • A/S Law Results amongst the top 10% in the country (2007)
  • 2 in 1 Foundation Degree with ILEX Accreditation

Sunderland offer a 2 year full time Qualifying Foundation Degree in Law at Hartlepool Sixth Form College.

The Law Department within the college has been recognised as a Grade 1 department with a record of producing outstanding student results. Indeed in 2007 the A/S Law results were amongst the top 10% in the country.

The Foundation Degree offers students the opportunity to specialise in a field related to their work or interest and provides for a number of progression opportunities. The Programme is designed for those students who have lower UCAS points or applicants who have engaged in work experience. The Programme would also suit applicants seeking to obtain a qualification to assist in their current employment.

2 in 1 Foundation Degree with ILEX Accreditation
Completion of the Foundation Degree has the added unique benefit of providing exemption from the academic study of the Institute of Legal Executives (ILEX) programme.

Foundation Degree students are automatically eligible (at a fee) to sit the ILEX examinations with no further study in order to become a Legal Executive.

A Legal Executive is a qualified lawyer specialising in a particular area of law. The role of a Legal Executive lawyer is so similar to that of a solicitor that the average client is unlikely to be able to distinguish between them. For example, Legal Executive lawyers will have their own clients (with full conduct of cases) and they can undertake representation in court where appropriate.

Why choose a Foundation Degree?
The features of a foundation degree operate to provide a distinctive higher education qualification which is both academically rigorous and employment related.

Such a degree integrates academic and work related learning and as such, is particularly attractive to employers.

The Foundation Degree in Law integrates features such as employer involvement, work related learning, accessibility, flexibility, articulation and progression opportunities. Students who complete the programme will not only have a Foundation Degree in Law, but they will have the following additional opportunities:

You will be eligible to sit the ILEX examinations (Institute for Legal Executives) with no further study.

Students can 'top up' their Foundation Degree by gaining direct entry onto level 2 of the LL.B at Sunderland University.

The Foundation Degree has been designed with accessibility in mind. The programme is open to applicants with lower UCAS points or applicants with limited academic experience but who have engaged with work experience. The programme will also suit applicants seeking to obtain a qualification to assist in their current employment.

The Foundation Degree in Law is delivered at Hartlepool Sixth Form College. The law department within the college is recognised as a Grade 1 department with a record of producing outstanding student results. Indeed in 2007 the A/S Law results were amongst the top 10% in the country. Students will also have access to library facilities at the University of Sunderland and will have numerous additional learning opportunities.
