Introduction
The MSc Tourism and Hospitality programme has been designed to facilitate a combination of real-world experience and critical reflection through work placements, fieldwork and classroom-based activities.
The programme applies a social scientific approach to both tourism and hospitality studies through a focus on the contexts of globalisation, commercialisation and consumption.
A particular strength of the programme is the consideration of the linkages between the travel, tourism and hospitality industries in relation to organisation and management, as well as in providing satisfactory experiences to consumers.

Stage 1
Postgraduate Certificate (PgC)
- International Tourism Development
- Hospitality Management Studies
Stage 2
Postgraduate Diploma (PgD)
As for certificate plus:
- Critical Tourism Theory and Methods and one of
- Hospitality Work-Based Learning Module
- Current Practice in Tourism, Hospitality and Events or
- Independent Study
Stage 3
Masters (MSc)
As for diploma plus:
- Tourism and Hospitality Major Project
Entry Requirements
The University will accept applications for this programme from candidates with a range of academic backgrounds. The main criteria are an interest in the subject area and a good first degree, usually at 2.2 or above.

Teaching and Assessment
Teaching includes a range of lectures, seminars, tutorials, work-based learning and fieldwork.
Assessment methods include essays, project reports, portfolios, presentations and an examination.

Past students from our tourism programmes have gone on to a range of management careers including in attractions, museums and destination marketing.
You may also choose to set up a tourist or hospitality business or go on to research and lecturing.
