Department of Arts and Design
The Department of Arts and Design, part of the Faculty of Arts, Design and Media, is led by Tim Brennan. Aside from teaching, the Arts and Design teams are also active in community and industry activities and research, gaining a high rating of 4 in the 2001 Research Assessment Exercise. Research includes art-practice led PhD research and a high level of professional research practice.

Department of Media
The David Puttnam Media Centre, located at the Sir Tom Cowie Campus on the banks of the River Wear, is home to one of the most vibrant and well-equipped Media Schools in the country. Offering a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, the media and cultural studies provision has been rated 'excellent' by the Quality Assurance Agency. We have a strong research profile and in the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) 65% of our research was ranked world leading or internationally excellent. We also have close links with all the media industries and a reputation for producing highly employable graduates. Wherever possible our degree courses are accredited by professional media organisations.
As a student, you will have the opportunity to work on our award winning radio station, 107 Spark FM, and even on a special column in the Sunderland Echo, a local evening newspaper.
