Creative and Cultural Practices Beacon
Real world impact and enrichment of our dynamic, attractive curriculum are central to this Beacon Research Area, which is focused on the creative and cultural industries. At its heart lies proven success in exploring innovative practice, informed by world-leading and internationally-excellent research.
Relevant and engaging scholarship will result in research-informed teaching on a wide range of buoyant academic programmes, helping to further develop a sustainable and vibrant envirnoment, a rich student experience and a rewarding research culture.
To further enhance the University's external reputation and profile, the Beacon can underpin and deepen our engagement with the different industries in the creative and cultural sector. Within this framework a diversity of research interests and paradigms are encouraged and through the beacon's two workstreams, Arts and Design which incorporates Performing Arts, and Media, six established, complementary research centres willl be properly supported. In short, our aim is to improve upon our RAE2008 result into an even better outcome for our staff, our students and the University in the next assessment of our research.
Links to wider research communities, both national and international, will be strengthened, and opportunities to secure increased external research funding maximised. The Beacon Research Area for the Creative and Cultural Practices provides an enabling infrastructure through which students, staff, the University and the wider community can benefit from an enriched context of investment in ideas, analysis, innovation and production. We can engage in research that is relevent to our society, that has real world impact and that supports the University's missions, the Academic Strategy, the student experience, the city and the region.
