Sunderland Digital Media Lab - /sLab
Sunderland Digital Media Research Lab (/sLab) undertakes research into digital media through a programme of curated projects, commissions, artist residencies, exhibitions, off-site projects, research papers, online projects, talks, events and presentations, working with emerging artists and established figures on the international arts scene. Projects initiated, developed and produced by /sLab are supported through its state-of-the-art digital media production facility, extensive network of contacts and are developed in collaboration with organisations, galleries and institutions at a national and international level.
In its first two years /sLab has developed a solid reputation for producing high-profile and innovative digital media art projects funded though research and project development grant awards from such agencies as Artists Links, Visiting Arts, Arts Council England, The Daiwa Anglo-Japanese Foundation and British Council, with past, present and forthcoming projects being developed in collaboration with such organisations such as BFI Southbank - London, Cornerhouse - Manchester, Graduate School of Film and New Media, Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music, Ullens Center for the Arts - Beijing, BankART 1929, Japan, amongst others.
/sLab is also actively engaged in cross-departmental collaboration within the University and has to date established solid working relationships with a number of its internationally respected research centres such as CRUMB.
