Our courses in Performing Arts, Dance, Drama and Music offer quality, variety and flexibility. You can study these subjects individually or in combination at levels ranging from foundation degree to postgraduate degree.
On all courses, we aim to help you develop both the subject specific and transferable skills that employers demand. Subject skills are developed through a range of performing opportunities, community and education projects and through directing, devising, choreographing and composing your own work. You will have an opportunity to develop transferable skills through: oral and written communication; teamwork; managing your own learning; research and using computers and other performance related technology.
The Performing Arts Subject Area is based in the Priestman Building on the City Campus. Our accommodation has recently been refurbished to provide a large galleried dance studio with adjacent rehearsal rooms; a drama studio; three dedicated music teaching rooms; a recording studio, music technology studios; practice rooms; video edit and viewing facilities. All of these rooms are well equipped with appropriate seating, sound, lighting, technology and acoustic instruments.
The Performing Arts team consists of experienced teachers, researchers and practitioners with diverse skills and interests. As part of your course you will have contact with practising artists and other professionals in the form of guest lectures, workshops and visits. Our students tell us that they enjoy the contact with a wide range of lecturers who allow them freedom to create their own work, as well as helping them to interpret the work of others. Our students report that staff are experienced, helpful and, most importantly, accessible and provide support and regular personal tuition sessions. As a team we have an extensive network of professional, education and community contacts in the region and you will benefit from these in your negotiated projects, workshops and visits.
