Emily Coulson
First class honours degree for mature student
Emily Coulson, from the Scottish Highlands, graduated with a first class honours degree in 2009.
Mature student Emily, said: "James Maskrey told me Sunderland had the best department in the country for glass and he was right! Steve Klein said I was never too old to do something new and he was right too!" These comments from University staff encouraged Emily to apply for the BA (Hons) Glass and Ceramics course.
Working in the studio with great people and having access to brilliant lecturers was something she really enjoyed and found very beneficial during her time at the University of Sunderland. Emily also enjoyed the social scene - meeting interesting people and having great conversations.
Emily would advise new students to enjoy the facilities, push the boundaries and ask lots of questions.
Using her creative skill base every day Emily now works with children on the autistic spectrum in a secondary school.
