Janet Harrison

Janet Harrison graduated in 2011 with a BA (Hons) Glass and Ceramics after studying part-time for five years.
The studio equipment and the standards of tuition attracted Janet, from Northumberland, to the course which is based in the award-winning National Glass Centre.
Being part of an international teaching team, who are practicing artists, was something Janet found especially beneficial during her course. She also enjoyed developing herself as an artist with support and encouragement from academic staff.
"The technical skills I have learned have really helped me in my career," said Janet. "Also the unique way I see the world inspires my work - not being seduced by the pretty things."
Since graduating from Sunderland Janet has pieces in the Artestee Gallery in York and the IO Gallery in Brighton, she also has work in Pearsons Glass online gallery. Janet exhibited at the Sculpture in Context exhibition in Dublin and sold all ofher work! To help develop her studio at home Janet has invested in a kiln.
When asked what she would say to new students, Janet said: "Enjoy developing your technical skills and learn from other students, sharing is good practice. Always remember how special the teaching is and use the studio space to the max."
