Katie Huskie The Liquid Glass Centre recruits Glass and Ceramics graduate

The amazing amount of kilns and huge hot shop attracted Katherine Huskie, from Wiltshire, to study Glass and Ceramics at the University of Sunderland.

Katherine, 24, graduated in 2009 with a BA (Hons) Glass and Ceramics, and now works as studio manager for The Liquid Glass Centre. The varied role involves being an assistant glass-blower, teacher, tutor and looking after the day to day running of the company.

As well as loving the social scene and nights out in Sunderland, Katherine said: "There is a huge amount of fantastic equipment available for students. The staff were really helpful and always tried to help me work through my ideas.

"I learnt a lot of useful skills while at university, for example hot shop etiquette, which is essential when you go and work for a studio. Also, the basic knowledge of all areas of glass means I can help out with the kiln side of glass, not just in the hot shop."

Katherine advises new students to enjoy themselves, experiment with ideas and make the most of their time at university. Also, gain as many skills as possible which will help you secure a job when you graduate.
