Photography

Our Photography Department at the University of Sunderland is one of the most dynamic photographic departments in the UK. Through our diverse team we are able to provide you with a very rounded experience and a broad view of contemporary photography.

Our undergraduate course covers photography, video and digital imaging, bringing together practical skills and theoretical knowledge to help you make a fast start in your career. Not only will you improve the way you work with others, we can help you to develop commu nication and team skills, critical thinking and self-reliance. We have an outstanding record of graduates who go straight into jobs in creative professions, work for themselves or undertake further study on our MA Photography course. You can even study up to PhD level.

We are also part of the North East Photography Network (NEPN), which was set up in 2009 to develop and promote photography in the North East of England. The region has produced some great photographers and supported a diverse range of practices. The aim of NEPN is to build on this history, providing a context for the future development of the regions photographic culture. The Network engages with a broad range of contemporary photography, including documentary and photojournalism alongside lens-based visual arts practice.
