Facilities
We have a wide range of facilities, including chemical darkrooms for both colour and black & white printing, digital darkrooms for scanning and digital production and printing, studios equipped with Tungsten and flash lighting kits and specialist equipment for you to use. You will have the opportunity to print from 35mm to 5x4 and a large horizontal enlarger to enable you to create extra large prints.
It is important that you have the opportunity to use a range of different equipment chemical and digital, to test out the capabilities of each area, your own strengths and weaknesses, and to be able to make informed decisions about your own production. The photographic facilities are available throughout the academic year and once you have the skills base in each area you will have access on demand. Our specialist technicians are there to assist you with any technical problems or concerns.

Digital darkroom, print washing, studios and library
Darkrooms & Studios
In chemical photography we have extensive black and white darkrooms and a colour suite. You will have the opportunity to print from 35mm to 5x4 and a large horizontal enlarger to enable you to create extra large prints. There is a digital darkroom with state-of-the-art scanners. We also have extensive studio space with tungsten and flash lighting kit to enable professional standard work to be undertaken.
Cameras
Our cameras range from 35mm to 5x4 Pentax, Nikon, Mamiya, Hasselblad, Fuji 6x7, Toyo, Sinar, Linhoff. We provide Digital Nikons, and Leaf backs for high-end digital studio work, and HD video cameras. There is support for studio and location work with accessories ranging from lighting kits to portable flash, meters and cable releases. Plus we have skilled and helpful technicians who can assist you when required.
Computer Suites
We have a range of open access computer suites with specialist software and hardware for photography, video editing and digital and web based work. The specialist computers are Mac's and through our digital darkroom you can access top-of-the-range scanners to convert your negatives or transparencies into digital files.
Our Arts and Design library has one of the best photography sections in the UK, whilst helpful staff will assist you to get the most from this exceptional library. The library has a specialist collection of over 120,000 books, CD-ROMS, videos, slides and one of the largest electronic information networks in the sector. Internet access to the library catalogue means that you can check what is available from a computer, as well as order items and renew books. The experienced library staff provide a high quality service and are sensitive to the requirements and working methods of arts and design students. Introductory library sessions for specific disciplines are available.
