At Sunderland we are passionate about radio and have built a reputation for our teaching, our research and our resources.
We are probably the largest centre for studying radio in the UK and our lecturers have world class research records, as well as experience of the radio industry at all levels. You will not only learn high quality practical skills, but also how the industry works and theories behind radio and audio production. In other words, we teach the 'how' as well as the 'why'. So, if you're keen to study radio then Sunderland is a great place to come.
At Sunderland you can elect to study radio modules at every level of your undergraduate degree, choosing from: radio studies, broadcasting history, radio journalism, live radio, commercial production and radio programming, new radio platforms, radio drama, creative documentary and feature production, experimental radio, community radio and radio programming. We've also benefitted from a recent capital investment that saw the replacement of studio mixers and upgrades to our studio playout systems and editing. We now operate RCS Master Control, Selector, Adobe Audition 3 and SADiE.
We can also help you to find work experience in a radio station to complement your studies and broaden your radio experience. As well as teaching radio at undergraduate and Foundation Degree level, we welcome graduates who already have a degree to study our MA in Radio (Production and Management) and we also offer community-based projects linked to our award-winning radio station 107 Spark FM.
