Introduction

This programme gives you an opportunity to study and explain the major issues facing modern society such as gender, ethnicity, class, health, crime, and the family. After a core of theory and research methods, you will select modules that meet your particular interests.

The programme is a useful springboard for developing a career in a variety of professions. It will help you develop transferable skills of analysis, as well as increasing your understanding of wider issues facing society.

You will make your studies more diverse by combining Sociology with one of the 30 other subjects available on the Combined Subjects programme. Elective modules available on this programme include foreign languages, IT skills and study skills modules.

Entry Requirements

Our typical offer will be 260 points from a minimum of 2 A levels/AVCEs or equivalent (e.g. 1 x AVCE double award).

We accept a maximum of 20 points from level 3 Key Skills.

We also require three passes at GCSE grade C or above which must include Mathematics and English Language or a minimum of Level 2 Key Skills in Communication and Application of Number.

Access Course: We would require successful completion of a Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education Access programme and that you would have a minimum of GCSE grade C Mathematics and English Language (or have obtained the equivalent as part of your course).

Scottish Highers: Our typical offer is for 260 points.

Irsish Leaving Certificate: Our typical offer is for 260 points.
