Introduction
Do you want a career that involves coaching a sport that you love? Do you have coaching experience or a record of sporting achievement such as selection at county level or above? This programme enables you to explore practical and theoretical aspects of sports coaching, and invest in national coaching qualifications.
This programme will help you towards success in sports coaching, an area where professional qualifications are becoming more and more important.
The programme blends the practical aspects of sports coaching with studies in sports sciences, social sciences, and coaching theory. Despite the sports science content you don't need scientific experience. But you do need coaching experience or a record of sporting achievement such as selection at county level or above.
At Level 1 you'll study a broad range of sports and take part in general sports-related activities with students from other courses. At Levels 2 and 3 you can specialise in your favourite areas.
You must also successfully complete three coaching awards from one of these areas: racquet sports, indoor team games, outdoor team games, gymnastics, aquatic activities, water-based activities. You may be able to study other sports that conform to UK coaching certificate principles and national occupational standards awards systems.
For the coaching awards, you'll have to pay fees to the relevant National Governing Bodies. You must agree to pay these fees because the awards are essential to make the course vocationally relevant. They will also give you the best chance of a job!
By the end of the programme you'll be able to coach a wide range of sports and ability levels. You'll be helping to meet the government's target of keeping people healthy as well as improving the country's sporting performance.

Whether in the lab, out in the field, or in the pool, we have the equipment to investigate the demands of most sports and activities.
Laser timing gates, portable gas and biochemical analysers enable students to measure human performance in and out of the lab.
