Computing and Engineering Facilities

Based at the Sir Tom Cowie Campus at St. Peter's, the Department has one of the most modern and best equipped computing environments in the UK. Employability of our students is our main aim. We achieve this by working closely with multi-national and local companies. We deliver life changing courses, creating graduates that industry really wants. We have developed partnerships with a number of major companies such as Nissan, BT, IBM, Leighton, Microsoft, Oracle, SAP and Sony.

Students have access to Microsoft software packages as part of the department's Microsoft Alliance membership - which means you can continue your learning wherever and whenever you want.

Network technologies teaching is delivered in dedicated labs ensuring students learn the CISCO curriculum and gain experience of both wired and wireless computer networks and mobile phone networks.

An engine test bed and wind tunnels are just two of the facilities within our comprehensive laboratories covering both electrical and mechanical engineering. Industry standard engineering software such as Pro-Engineer - supported by links to leading car and automotive component manufacturers - is used to ensure students develop the vision and creative skills necessary to influence the future of both the automotive and engineering industries of the future. The strong links the department has with industry ensures all our degree courses have curricula that are modern and relevant to industry.

The department also has a large community of researchers, spanning all levels from research students via research associates to research lecturers, readers and professors. We carry out internationally recognised research across a wide range of areas in computing and engineering. We specialise in Systems Engineering, HCI and Usability, Automotive Mechatronics, Materials and Structural Analysis, Manufacturing Systems, Advanced Maintenance, Human Factors, Internet Technologies and E-learning.
