Pharmacy, Health and Wellbeing Facilities

State-of-the-Art Laboratories for Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Sciences

Our state-of-the-art spectroscopic facility houses low and high resolution mass spectrometry (MS), Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR), and elemental analysis equipment, which can be used to confirm the structures of new molecules we synthesize as potential pharmaceutical products. In addition, we have first rate equipment to carry out tabletting, pharmacopoeial tests, rheometry and thermal analysis.

Our modern laboratories also include equipment to analyse the genome and proteome (real time PCR, robotics for 2D gel electrophoresis and MALDI MS) plus cell culture facilities, flow cytometry and confocal microscopy enable functional and phenotypic assays to be performed.

Our Pharmacology laboratories are well-equipped with highly technical apparatus which will give you first-hand experience of the principles of drug action. You will be instructed and assisted in developing your knowledge of drug action through hands-on practical experience of the effects of drugs on pharmacological and cellular models. You will be encouraged to develop your understanding of the effects of drugs on specific receptors located throughout the human body and related physiological effects.

Pharmacy Practice and Professional Development

We have a purpose-built model community pharmacy with consultation suite which is used for both undergraduate and postgraduate pharmacy teaching, allowing students to develop their communication skills. We also have a high quality, fully equipped clinical skills lab which is used for continuous professional development training of professionals from across the health care spectrum. Our hi-tech audio-visual facilities record the stages involved in the pharmaceutical care process and can be used to analyse patient/student interaction, helping you develop your interpersonal skills
