The Department of Pharmacy, Health and Well-being is based on the City Centre Campus in the heart of Sunderland city centre.

As the name suggests the Department has a wide range of courses - from laboratory science to professional development - all focused on Health and Well-being. Teaching on all our programmes is informed by up-to-date research. Our staff are highly qualified and use their wealth of experience in the education and training of future professionals in many different arenas of Health care.

Sunderland's School of Pharmacy was established in 1921 and its courses are accredited by the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain.

Our graduates have gone on to great things - leaders in the world of pharmacy and pharmaceutical industry. For example Hemant Patel was recently the president of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society and Jim Smith our professor of Pharmacy Practice and Policy was the former Chief Pharmaceutical Officer for England at the Department of Health.

We host the North East Teaching Public Health Network and are partners in the UKCRC funded Centre for Translational Research in Public Health. Our health team comprises academics from a range of health care professions who deliver high quality multi-professional education and research.

BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science is accredited by the Institute of Biomedical Science and approved by the Health Professions Council. This provides the excellent opportunity to do a 48 week clinical placement, and upon graduation, be eligible to join the HPC register as a Biomedical Scientist.
