Department of Sport and Exercise Sciences

So, you like sport!

You may actively participate or be an interested observer of sport.  Your career or recreational aspirations may include sport and exercise.  You may wonder why some people perform better than others.  What drives them?  What makes them physiologically and mechanically suited to a sport?  Why do they get injured?

You may also think that everyone should have the chance to take part in sport and physical activity irrespective of age, ability, gender or race.  You think that you can make a difference as a coach, exercise leader, health professional, development officer or sport and exercise scientist but need more knowledge, more skills, more experience to enable you to do so.

And, you think that you need to study and train to make this difference.  Well, so do we.  It is because of this that we in the Department of Sport and Exercise Sciences have developed a range of programmes to suit people from all sorts of backgrounds and all types of interests.

Our undergraduate programmes have been designed to ensure that they meet the needs of the sport, exercise and health, and leisure areas of employment.  As a result, our graduates can gain access into many different working environments in the public, commercial and voluntary sectors of sport, health and leisure.  Our programmes also enable people to start from a wide base of academic and experiential backgrounds.

Our programmes allow people with 'A' Levels, BTEC National Certificate or Higher National Diploma, GNVQ and sometimes, with other academic qualifications, to study and develop through Foundation degrees in partner colleges, and through BSc honours and postgraduate degrees and qualifications.
