Information Retrieval
The Information Retrieval Group specialises in large scale searching of unstructured data like text, image and video.
We focus on areas of search engine technology like the use of techniques from natural language processing like word sense disambiguation to improve indexing; advanced summarising to improve the usability of results; content based techniques to annotate image data with index key words; and using geographical information to meaningfully index images.
We work closely with the Intelligent Systems and Human Computer Interaction groups.
