Pharmacy

In line with the strategic objectives of the University and the research plan of the School, the research group structure was recently revised and now comprises the following teams:

  • Drug Design and Analysis
  • Pharmaceutics
  • Pharmacy Practice and Policy
  • Pharmacological and Biomedical Science

The current structure was designed to take into account the future development of research in the academic area. The reorganisation also enables the various research groups to work in a more integrated fashion through the sharing of expertise and resources and has resulted in a clearer research strategy for the academic area.

The new structure aims first of all to increase the research output of those groups which had previously been identified as having strong international standing (Drug Discovery, Molecular Modelling, Pharmacology and Molecular Biology) and international recognition (Biological Sciences), which have now been re-organised into the Drug Design and Analysis and Pharmacological and Biomedical Sciences teams. The reorganisation also aimed to improve the research reputation of the other teams.  The improvements in research infrastructure and the reorganisation of the research groups have also enabled the various teams to enhance their collaboration with other research institutions, some of which are 5/5* rated. They have also enabled staff to collaborate with small/medium and virtual enterprises to help with their development and at the same time provide staff with opportunities to keep up to date on current and future developments in their research areas.
