Pharmaceutics

Research interests encompass a wide area, but are linked by the strong input of physical pharmacy and preformulation studies into all aspects of the research.

Dr Kalliopi Dodou works on adhesive properties for transdermal patches. For this she received support from Schwarz Pharma and from the Institution of Chemical Engineers. The University provided funding for equipment worth £50,000 to help start the project and they also pay the fees for a part-time PhD student to undertake the work. During the last few months the Pharmaceutics team was able to recruit two more members of staff, i.e., Drs Chaw and Elkordy. Dr Chaw's work has already attracted some funding from the Institution of Chemical Engineers, and the University contributed with £45,000 in form of equipment to start the work. Dr Elkordy's research is fully supported through the existing infrastructure and equipment base and has also attracted funding from the Institution of Chemical Engineers. The University has provided £15,000 for further equipment to support her research.
