Health care is a huge employer in the North East and this is reflected in our strong focus on the caring professions. Our postgraduate and part-time programmes range over care of the older person, drug and alcohol studies, community health, advanced practice, and management of long term conditions.

As well as our MA and BA (Hons) programmes, we also offer a number of short courses. These could be the answer if you're a professional seeking to enhance your qualifications and to continue your professional development.

With additional programmes in health studies and psychology, Sunderland offers a vibrant learning community that will help you move forward in your career and fulfil your ambitions. We aim to develop not just theoretical knowledge, but also the practical skills to make a bigger contribution to your chosen field. Sunderland's students have an excellent track record of going on to jobs or further study, and making a difference in people's lives.

We have strong partnerships with local authorities and hospitals; these provide wide-ranging opportunities to develop your experience and research. Health professionals and community organisations contribute to the management and delivery of our programmes, ensuring that what you learn is relevant to your future career.

In some cases, our programmes are accredited by relevant organisations. For example, our Graduate Diploma in Psychology is accredited by the British Psychological Society. Successful completion of the diploma will automatically make you eligible for their graduate membership.
