How to Apply
Once you have decided which undergraduate course you want to study you must submit your application through the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS). This applies to all full-time undergraduate degrees, Foundation Degrees and HNDs. Any programme specific requirements are listed in the course details.
Degrees, Foundation Degrees and HND Programmes
Applications for entry must be submitted online through the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS).
If you choose to apply to more than one course, university or college, you need to pay £21 when you apply. If you only apply to one course at one university or college, you pay £11. The UCAS welcome letter will explain how you can add more choices later (if you have paid only £11 and choose to add further choices, you will need to pay a further £10).
All applications UCAS receive after 30 June 2011 must pay a £21 application fee - these applications will be entered into Clearing. The application fee includes VAT.
Direct Entry into Level 2 or Level 3
Direct entry to Level 2/3 of a programme may be appropriate depending on prior qualification or experience and with the agreement of the relevant Programme Leader and Admissions Tutor. Candidates wishing to be considered for direct entry to Level 2/3 of a programme should contact the Helpline, Tel: (0191) 515 3000 for advice on how to apply.
PGCE Programmes
Applications for entry must be submitted through the Graduate Teacher Training Registry (GTTR).
Foundation Degrees
The University of Sunderland in collaboration with partner institutions is offering a wide range of . This qualification, not to be confused with Foundation or Level 0 programmes, will allow applicants to obtain a foundation degree qualification in two years with the option of progression onto a full honours degree. Some programmes may require applicants to successfully complete a bridging course before progressing to the honours degree programme.

Foundation Programmes
In some cases, colleges run franchised full-time foundation year programmes from which you can progress to Level 1 HND or degree programmes in Science, Business, Computing, Environment, Engineering and Technology possibly at the college itself, or at the University of Sunderland. College Level 1 or foundation programmes which form an integral part of a degree programme are eligible for mandatory awards and loans.
Attending for Interview
For most programmes, we will probably not require you to attend for a formal interview, but we do encourage you to come to one of our .
If you are asked for an interview, don't panic! An interview at the University of Sunderland is a friendly and informal opportunity for you to find out more about the university and for the university to find out more about you, by giving you the chance to show us your skills through a portfolio or audition or to tell us more about yourself and why you would like to study this particular course. If the course you are applying for requires you to attend an interview this will be shown by the interview icon within the course description.
What if I can't get a place on my chosen programme?
Don't be discouraged! There may well be other programmes at a similar level that may suit you better, and if so the letter you receive in response to your application or following an interview will give details of these. Alternatively, a member of the admissions team may contact you to discuss the choices available to you. If you decide you would like to pursue a suggested alternative programme, all you have to do is tell us and we will arrange the rest.
