Discrimination - reporting and combating racist incidents

The University of Sunderland is a member of the Sunderland ARCH Partnership. Sunderland ARCH consists of a number of organisations in the city that work together to combat racism and hate.

The University is a key partner in this initiative and this allows information gathered by our Campus Watch security team to be passed to colleagues across the city.

What is ARCH?

ARCH is a nationally regarded web-based IT system designed for reporting, recording and monitoring  racist incidents.   It allows people that live in the city (residents, students, asylum seekers and migrant workers) as well as visitors to the city to report racist incidents in various ways.

ARCH ensures that there is a quick and efficient way of reporting racist incidents and enables the organisations involved to work in a coordinated way to ensure the victim gets the most appropriate support and that effective action is taken against perpetrators.

ARCH is not a self-reporting system.  Trained staff from the partner organisations input the incident reported by a victim, a witness or someone on behalf of the victim into the system.

Once an incident is reported to Sunderland ARCH the victims can be offered the most appropriate support, and where possible, action against the suspect can be taken.  The system is confidential and victims and witnesses can remain anonymous.

You can report an incident if you are the victim, someone on behalf of a victim or a witness.
