As a law student at the University of Sunderland you will receive exceptional support throughout the duration of your studies. We are a small team of experienced academics and practitioners who are focused on supporting you as an individual, getting to know you and how you work. Our teaching is immersive and interactive, allowing for very regular contact with and support from lecturers. Every module is designed not only to introduce the law but also to embed crucial transferable skills that will make you attractive to employers in all fields.
As a student at Sunderland you will have the ability to tailor your degree to compliment your career ambitions. If you plan to work in the commercial sphere you may wish to study modules such as Employment and Labour Law, Commercial Law, Intellectual Property Law or Business Law. If you are aiming to practice criminal law then you may study modules such as Criminal Law and Procedure, The Law of Evidence and Criminal Practice, and Organised Crime and Terrorism. Alternatively, you may select modules such as the Law of Succession, Family Law or Medical Law, if you are pursuing a career in a High street firm. For those with an interest in law more generally, we offer an array of socio-legal modules which explore the law from a theoretical perspective. We also offer the chance to gain Paralegal Accreditation as part of your study. Paralegals undertake similar work to solicitors and can be employed as fee earners with their own client base. Completion of certain modules allows you to graduate with both a law degree and the NALP Diploma in Paralegal Studies.
As well as our LL.B with combined Paralegal accreditation, we also offer a BA in Business Law (Top Up) Programme, a Law Foundation Degree and the chance to combine the study of law with another subject.
We have recently introduced a number of new modules into the LL.B, including space law and coroners' law as third year options, to provide students with a wide, interesting and relevant range of study choices.
Our Masters Programmes incorporate the research expertise of the department and allow students to specialise in a wide range of contemporary legal subjects at postgraduate level.
Our bespoke law court and field trips provide opportunities which enable students to specialise in the study of law during their years with us.
