Ben's research centres around criminal legal theory, and aspects related to the criminal process. In particular, Ben is interested in the responses of the criminal justice system when it comes to the activities of people involved in behaviour that deviates from the norm, such as contact sports. In such instances, the criminal law, and the wider justice system, struggles to implement its doctrines; these are in many ways contingent on socio-cultural and historical factors and influences. Related to this, Ben is also interested in the use of the narrative in legal pedagogy, particularly in relation to film.
