Ben Middleton

Senior Lecturer in Law

Having graduated in 2006 with a First Class law degree, Ben began a Ph.D with research looking into counter-terrorism detention regimes in the United States of America and the United Kingdom, together with their commensurate human rights implications. After working as a visiting lecturer for a year, Ben took a full-time lecturing post in 2007 and spent two years as Programme Leader on Sunderland’s flagship LL.B Programme, before being awarded promotion to the post of Senior Lecturer.

Ben has experience of teaching a variety of undergraduate and postgraduate modules, but has particular interests in Public Law, Human Rights and Counter-terrorism law, which relate to his current undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. Ben is a contracted regular contributor to the Journal of Criminal Law.
