Senior Lecturer in Tourism, Hospitality and Events
PhD, BA (Hons)
James studied a PhD at Durham University that considered the effectiveness of performance measurement in local governance. He was then involved in a HomeOffice project on the impact of the Licensing Act. Past research has focussed largely on Governance, Policy and Planning and Tourism in the Developing World. More recent research has focussed on Sports Tourism and the impact of a mega event on the developing world. Research conducted in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Zambia analysed the likely outcomes of hosting the World Cup in this region and future research hopes to analyse the impact of the World Cup post event.
James devotes much of his time to the programme leadership of the Tourism and Hospitality degrees at the University of Sunderland, with his priority being the learning experience of students on the course. James is also currently Director of Studies for one PhD student and is co-supervising 6 PhD candidate.
