PG Cert, LL.B (Hons), Diploma in Paralegal Studies

Nicola is Programme Leader for the BA in Business Law (Top Up) and Foundation Degree in Law Programmes. Nicola’s teaching responsibilities include Equity and Trusts and Criminal Law. She is also Employment Law module leader and Recruitment Liaison for Law. She graduated with first class LLB (hons), a PGCert (TLHE) and a Diploma in Paralegal Studies. Nicola received the Ede and Ravenscroft Award, University of Sunderland Academy Award for Outstanding Achievement, and Paralegal Awards in Contract, Tort, and Family Law.

Currently reading for her PhD, “Partial Defences to Murder: A Comparative Analysis”, Nicola makes regular contributions to the JoCL from her research. Publications include: "Substantial Confusion within Diminished Responsibility"; “Intoxication in the dock: Specimen directions for jurors”; “Diminished Responsibility and Murder: Reconciling the Mandatory Life Sentence with the Evolution of Criminal Law?” and, “Alcohol Dependency Syndrome and Diminished Responsibility.” Nicola co-chaired the first UK conference on the 2009 Governmental reforms to the partial defences; "C&JA 2009-Panacea or Pandora's Box for Partial Defences.”She recently co-authored two book chapters which were included in the first monograph to focus on those reforms; “Loss of Control and Diminished Responsibility. Domestic, Comparative and International Perspectives."
