SUNCETT

SUNCETT is part of a national initiative which is made up of a network of 11 Centres for Excellence in Teacher Training.

  • SUNCETT is committed to developing innovative and collaborative approaches to the professional development of new and qualifying teachers in Post Compulsory Education and Training (PCET).
  • It will also offer support to more experienced, qualified teachers and mentors in the region as they maintain their Licence to Practise through the new 30 hours CPD entitlement. This entitlement was initially set out in 'Equipping our Teachers for the Future' (DfES 2004) and confirmed in the October 2007 letter from Geoff Daniels, DIUS Director of Funding Policy.

The CETTs Initiative

The Centres for Excellence in Teacher Training (CETTs) are an integral part of the Government's commitment to improving standards of teaching and learning in the sector.

"As part of our sweeping reforms to FE they (CETTs) will accelerate the process of identifying, developing and sharing practice and provide models for improving the quality of teacher training and support the teacher training providers."

(Bill Rammell, Minister for Lifelong Learning, Further and Higher Education, June 2007)
