Research Interests
My current research centres on the 1924 National Origins Act, the intellectual history of race relations in the United States, American immigration policy in the early 20th century, and the development of American culture and politics between the wars. I hope to complete a book on the National Origins Act by the end of this year.
Previously, I worked on the intellectual history of affirmative action, African-American history, the civil rights movement, federal policy on civil rights during the Nixon and Johnson administrations, and the history of post-war liberalism.
I also maintain an interest in current American political and cultural issues and have published journalistic articles in publications such as the spectator (UK), the London Standard, the Canadian National Post, and the Tablet on the Obama election, assisted suicide, gun controls and American politics.
