I have taught in Further Education since 1997 primarily in subjects such as Key Skills (Functional Skills) and Wider Key skills across all levels of Futher vocational education (Level 1,2 & 3).  I took the lead for the 'Increased flexibility' programme in Business Administration with hard to reach students and pupils from local schools and also led the Learning to Learn programme across college for students at all levels before taking on a 'cross college' role of Advanced Learning Coach to support the development of teachers in learning and teaching and contribute to the quality observation inspection team.

Teaching Areas

Teacher Training; Critical Thinking; Philosophical Enquiry; Management of Training and Education; Research Methods; Mentoring and Coaching; Professional Learning and Development Styles and Theories; Educational Policy across all sectors from Early Years through to HE.

Research Interests

My principal research area lies in the field of teacher training and development.  I am currently investigating the effects of relationships between student and teacher within Further Education and Higher Education and its impact upon moral character development of students for my PhD.

Previous research studies have explored the identity of teachers within further education for a Masters study in education as well as small action research studies around development critical and creative thinking practices and enquiry based learning and using social networking as a tool to encourage critical dialogue of part time students.

Future plans involve continuing to develop my PhD's methodological approach of auto-thnography and co-constructed stories of teachers and students within HE.
