Biography

Maggie Gregson is a Principal Lecturer in Post Compulsory Education and Training (PCET) at the University of Sunderland.  In the past, she has worked for a number of government departments in the development and implementation of Vocational Education and Training policy at reginal level.  She has also held a variety of positions in Further Education including, Senior Lecturer, Head of Teacher Training and Director of School.

She is currently responsible for the strategic leadership and development of pOst Compulsory Teacher Education at the University of Sunderland.  Most recently, Maggie has also led the validation of a new Masters Degree for intending and existing professional teacher educators.

Teaching Areas

Her teaching responsibilities include, PhD supervision, teaching on the MA in Advanced Pedagogy, the PGCE PCET programme and the Additional Diploma for Teavhers of English (Adult Literacy).

Research Interests

Her Main research interests are in the process of research capacity building, philosophy of education, pedagogic practice and continuing professional development.  She has published work on education policy implementation, educational evaluation, learning styles, thinking skills and approaches to educational change and improvement.

She has presented papers on curriculum and pedagogy in teacher education, reflective thinking, educational practice, technology and pedagogy, public policy implementation and its evaluation, models of change and improvement in education, practitioner experience collaborative working and continuing professional development.

Consultancy

Over the last three years, in her role as a Director of the University's Centre for Excellence in Teacher Training (SUNCETT) she has been working in a consultancy and teaching capacity with the national improvement service for the sector, the Learning and Skills Improvement Service (LSIS).  Through a prestigious national Research Development Fellowship programme (RDF) sponsored by LSIS, Maggie has enabled practitioners from across the country to improve teaching and learning in susatinable and measurable ways.  She has helped to raise the profile of research in Vocational Education and increased research capacity.
