Biography

Prior to joining the University in 2002  I worked as a Senior Community Education Officer for Gateshead Local Authority with responsibility for Adult Education.

Before this I held various posts as Community Development Worker, Youth Worker, Adult Education Worker and Teacher, mainly in the North East of England and also in the North West of Germany.

I have travelled widely and have a particular interest in women's education and health as well as supporting initiatives focusing on combating sexual violence against women.

Teaching Areas

I am Programme Leader for the BA (Hons) in Community and Youth Studies and currently teach Practice Studies at Level 1, Research Skills at Level 1 and 2, Management at Level 2 and Education in Community and Youth Work at Level 3.  I also share the support of students during their practice placement at level 1 and 3.

Research Interests

Informal Education /Critical Pedagogy and its contemporary application to Community and Youth Work Practice.

Research Ethics.

Critical Management Studies.
