Biography

Jane Scutt is a lecturer in Social work for the BA (Hons) in Social work.  She qualified as a Social worker in 1984, and since then has had a wide range of social work experience, from hospital and generic social work to a number of years working for a Local Authority child care team.

Jane has a long standing interest in training and staff development and was a trainer for a Local Authority social services and ACPC before moving to Barnardo's in 2000 as a learning and development consultant .  Jane's most recent appointment before coming to work at the University in 2009 was as Safeguarding Advisor (learning and development) for Barnardo's UK.
 
She is a qualified practice assessor.  Her teaching interests are in working with children, young people and their families, particularly around safeguarding.

Teaching Areas

Child Care, safeguarding, models of intervention, communication skills, social work theory.

Research Interests

Jane has developed an interest in the use of Myers Briggs Personality Indicator and is a qualified Myers Briggs practitioner.  Having worked in the voluntary sector as well as the public sector Jane is also interested in the role of the voluntary sector in safeguarding children.

Selected Presentations

Jane is the co author of an e learning course on safeguarding children and young people.  She has contributed to the development of induction and training strategies for local authorities and for Barnardo's UK.
