Learning and Teaching Methods

The range of teaching, learning and assessment methods that you encounter on your Programme will be determined by the subjects/modules that you choose to study. Details of teaching, learning and assessment methods are provided in module descriptions.

Typically, you will be assessed in three single modules each Semester/Block, and you must pass them all. Some will have both Coursework and Examinations. Your aim should be to pass all elements of assessment first time (i.e. get 40% or above in each). However, many students have problems with this, and many of the Assessment Regulations are concerned with solutions to this.

The range of teaching, learning and assessment methods available include:

  • lectures

  • tutorials

  • seminars

  • open-learning

  • laboratory work

  • group work

  • group assessment

  • peer assessment

  • individual assignments

  • time constrained assignments/tests

  • formal examinations

  • continuous assessment

  • presentations

  • computer marked assessments

  • exhibitions

  • poster sessions

  • recitals

  • any other appropriate methods.
