Work Placements
Many of our programmes offer you the opportunity to undertake a work placement as part of your programme of study. The aim of a work placement is to give you experience in a real business environment, applying the theory you have learned during your course to actual work scenarios. The Benefits
Working alongside professionals will help you expand on existing skills and develop new ones. You will gain lots of new business contacts and it's eye-catching on your CV, giving you a competitive edge in the graduate job market. You will be able to demonstrate to future employers your maturity and confidence and your ability to work as part of a team in a real-working environment developing your communication skills. It can also be a great opportunity to earn some money while you gain some experience!
The University of Sunderland has a growing reputation in enterprise and employment with over 90% of our graduates successfully gaining jobs soon after graduation. A number of our students have impressed their placement organisations so much that they have been offered a permanent job with them upon completion of their course.
We also know that students who have opted for a full 48-week (full academic year) placement in industry tend to be awarded a class of degree higher than those who don't, so work-based learning does play a major role in your overall academic achievement.
Support While on Placement
Dedicated staff will help you find a suitable short or longer-term work placement. Those taking a full year out will be assigned a tutor who will visit throughout the year to ensure you and your supervisor are happy. Your tutor is contactable at any time in between your visits too.Find Out More
