Honorary Graduates
Every year the University celebrates the achievements of graduates and prominent local and international people who have made a significant contribution to cultural, business or economic life.
Honorary graduates in 2009 included actors Wendy Craig and Alun Armstrong, TV and radio presenter Lauren Laverne, historian Michael Wood, Durham CCC coach Geoff Cook, author and artist Bryan Talbot and founder of Global Ethics Duncan Goose.
Honorary graduates from previous years include: former Dire Straits frontman Mark Knopfler, Sir Tim Rice, Hollywood film director Alan Parker, legendary opera diva Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, Lord Robert Winston, North East born Notting Hill actress Gina McKee, footballer Niall Quinn, broadcaster Lord Melvyn Bragg, Horrible Histories author Terry Deary and racing legend Sir Stirling Moss.
