By Car
From: North Route: Tyne Tunnel/A19
Journey Details:
Exit Tunnel and follow A19 Sunderland signs. Continue for 3 miles until you reach a main roundabout - then exit left onto A184 Newcastle Road signposted Sunderland. Continue through East Boldon; A184 becomes A1018. Continue for approximately 3 miles, past a bowling centre. Follow one way system bearing left for Sunderland city centre. Turn right at traffic lights onto Church Street North (Monkwearmouth Library will be on your left). Follow road round bearing right onto Dame Dorothy Street.
For the Sir Tom Cowie Campus at St Peter's take second left off Dame Dorothy Street (signposted for St Peter's Wharf) and then left again onto Charles Street. Car park is signposted.
For the City Campus carry on along Dame Dorothy Street and then bear left onto North Bridge Street and the Wearmouth Bridge. On crossing the river, bear right at the roundabout onto St Mary's Way. Continue to a second roundabout, where you bear right onto Livingstone Row. At third roundabout, bear left onto St Michael's Way. Continue to a junction with traffic lights where you bear right onto Chester Road. (You will then have arrived at the centre of The City Campus). Parking is available behind the Edinburgh Building, located on your right. You should take the first right down Wharncliffe Street and then the second right into the parking area.
From: South Route: A1(M)
Journey Details:
Turn off A1 (M) at A690 signposted Sunderland. Continue for approximately 9 miles until you reach a roundabout at the end of New Durham Road. A park is on your left. At the roundabout filter left onto St Michael's Way for approximately 200 metres until you reach a junction with traffic lights.
For the City Campus turn left. (You will then have arrived at the centre of The City Campus). Parking is available behind the Edinburgh Building, located on your right. You should take the first right down Wharncliffe Street and then the second right into the parking area.
For the Sir Tom Cowie Campus at St Peter's continue to next roundabout. Bear right onto Livingstone Row and then bear left onto St Mary's Way. At lights take left over Wearmouth Bridge and onto North Bridge Street, keeping in right-hand lane. Follow one way system bearing right for Sunderland city centre. From: West Route: A69/A1
Journey Details:
Follow South-bound A1, then after MetroCentre take Gateshead Western by-pass into Gateshead Centre. Take Felling by-pass past Gateshead Stadium straight on for Sunderland. At Heworth the by-pass becomes the A184. Drive for approximately 3 miles until you reach a main roundabout. Turn right onto the A19 towards Sunderland. Take the A1231 turn off for Sunderland. Continue
on the dual carriage way until you reach traffic lights.
For the Sir Tom Cowie Campus at St Peter's continue straight ahead on B1289 Queens Road and Southwick Road until you reach a large traffic island where you turn right on the one way system and immediately left onto Roker Avenue. Take a right at the traffic lights onto Church Street North (Monkwearmouth Library will be on your left). Follow road bearing right onto Dame Dorothy Street. Take second left off Dame Dorothy Street (signposted for St Peter's Wharf) and then left again onto Charles Street. Car park is signposted.
For the City Campus keep to the middle lane and follow the traffic right around until you cross the Queen Alexandra Bridge. At roundabout bear left onto Pallion New Road to second roundabout. Continue on A1231 along Trimdon Street to third roundabout where you should take the second exit onto Silksworth Row. Turn right at the next roundabout onto St Michael's Way and continue to a junction with traffic lights where you bear right onto Chester Road (You will then have arrived at the centre of the City Campus). Parking is available behind the Edinburgh Building, located on your right. You should take the first right down Wharncliffe Street and then the second right into the parking area.
From: York & Teeside Route: A19
Turn off A19 at the A1018 junction, marked Sunderland. Carry on for approximately 4 miles until you reach the city centre and a roundabout. Bear right (third exit) onto St Michael's Way for approximately 200 metres until you reach a junction with traffic lights.
For the City Campus turn left.
For the Sir Tom Cowie Campus at St Peter's continue onto next roundabout. Bear right onto Livingstone Row and then bear left onto St Mary's Way. By Train
If you are travelling by train, Sunderland train station is in the town centre. The main line into the North East runs into Newcastle. From Newcastle you can get the Metro through to Sunderland which takes about 25 minutes. Local Metro information is available on 0870 6082608 or www.tyneandwearmetro.co.uk. The Metro runs across Newcastle and Sunderland, the St Peter's stop is a five minute walk from the Sir Tom Cowie Campus at St Peter's.
By Air
Newcastle Airport is the closest international airport. The following operators - easyJet, American Airlines, Ryan Air, Air France and jet2 all have frequent flights to and from Newcastle from a range of destinations.
