Research postgraduate tuition fees 2011/2012

Tuition fees vary according to whether your research area is lab-based (also referred to as ‘Band 2’) or non-lab-based (also referred to as ‘Band 1’).
Fees also vary according to whether you are full-time or part-time and whether you are a UK, EU or International applicant.
PhD and MPhil tuition fees
Full-time UK / EU tuition fees
Non-lab-based research degree: £3,732 per year
Lab-based research degree: £3,732 per year
Part-time UK / EU tuition fees
Non-lab-based research degree: £1,966 per year
Lab-based research degree: £1,966 per year
Distance learning research degree: £3,732 per year
Full-time international tuition fees
Non-lab-based research degree: £9,000 per year
Lab-based research degree: £9,800 per year

Other research degree tuition fees
The following degrees are all studied on a part-time basis only, and the tuition fee is the same regardless of whether you are a UK, EU or International applicant.
PhD by Existing Published or Creative Works: £1,966 (this is a one-year course)
Higher Doctorate: £1,600 (this is a one-year course)
Professional Doctorate: £2,850 per year
Write up fees
PhD, MPhil and Professional Doctorate research degrees also have an additional write-up fee, which is a one-off payment.
UK / EU write up fee: £785
Distance learning write up fee: £785
International (based in UK) write up fee: £1,570
Please note that additional costs may be added to tuition fees, where necessary, to fund consumables, travel, subsistence and other additional research costs.
